Celebrating Thanksgiving With Your Dog

Thanksgiving is a great time to give your dog extra hugs and praises. Give thanks to your dog’s ever lasting, unconditional love. With family gatherings and delicious food it is hard not to include your dog with all the Thanksgiving festivities. Here are some ways to help your dog happy and healthy as you gather around the table this Thanksgiving Day.
  • Turkey is the staple food on Thanksgiving. Yes, you can serve Turkey to your dog. However, it is recommended that you only provide your dog white turkey meat. Turkey skin and dark meat are difficult to digest which can cause gastric distress such as vomiting and diarrhea. In most cases, it can lead to pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas and can be lethal.
  • A sudden change in your dog’s diet can cause an upset stomach. So if you plan to serve white Turkey meat to your dog’s meal, it is recommended to mix it with dry food.
  • It is always a good to buy or make special Thanksgiving dog treats that your dog can munch during the festivities.
  • You can always provide your dog a special Thanksgiving toy to keep occupied. A Kong is a great treat chew toy.
  • Remind your family and guests not to give anything to your dog.
  • Always, keep a watchful eye on your dog.
  • Before your Thanksgiving festivities, taking a long walk or quick run with your dog is an excellent idea. It is also stimulating physically and mentally for both you and your dog. It is a possibility that your dog will be tried and incline to rest or sleep during the festivities.
Have a great and safe Thanksgiving festivities.
