Can Your Dog or Cat Get Swine Flu?

A 13 year old Ohio cat was confirmed to have infected with the Swine Flu (H1N1 Virus). This is the first case of the H1N1 virus in a feline. What is the significance of this case? According to (ABC- Good Morning America) Dr. Richard Besser, Senior Health & Medical Editor, the H1N1 virus can be passed to species (such as your pet dog or cat). Luckily, the cat has been treated and recovered. 

Every pet owners need to take extra precautions when suffering from the flu. Here are ways to protect your pet with the virus.

1. Wash your hands before /after touching your pet.

2. Avoiding kissing your pet.

3. Avoid sneezing near your pet.

4. Cover your mouth when coughing & sneezing.

5. Wear protective gloves cleaning your pet's litter.

Also as a pet owner, you need to monitor your pet's behavior. Here are the signs that your pet needs veterinary care. 

1. Decrease of appetite

2. Lethargy

3. Coughing
